Rangers fall to Lakers 5-2

The Minnesota Iron Rangers wrapped up a tough road trip at Fort Frances, ON Saturday (Oct. 3) and came up short 5-2 against the defending Bill Salonen Cup champions in Superior International Junior Hockey League play.

After dropping a decision at Dryden the previous night, the Rangers wrapped up an 0-fer weekend on the road. Teams were even at 1-1 after a period, but the host Lakers scored a pair of unanswered middle period markers.

Dalton Johnson, 19, from Cloquet, MN had the Iron Rangers back with in a goal, scoring 4:30 into the final frame, but a powerplay goal just 74 seconds later restored the two goal margin and Lakers added one more into an empty net to clinch the win.

Jackson Bond, 19, from White Bear Lake, MN had the other Rangers goal and Kyle Carignan, 19, from Oregon stopped 39 of 43 shots for the Iron Rangers.

Christian Ripley, 20, from Duluth, MN; Andrew Willner, 20, from New Brighton, MN; Dylan Kooner, 19, from BC; Nick Minerva, 19, from New Jersey and Carter Chorney, 18, from Ontario had the Lakers goals and Brandon Bodner, 18, from Fort Frances stopped 24 shots to pick up the win in goal.
