Iron Rangers run into wall at Dryden

The Minnesota Iron Rangers carried a solid 5-1Superior International Junior Hockey League record out of September, but hit a big time wall to start off October at Dryden.

The host Ice Dogs whipped the Iron Rangers 8-0 thanks in part to a 45-17 edge in shots.

The Dogs scored two goals in both the first and second periods and if the Rangers harbored any shots of a third period rally, they were erased when the host scored two more 13 seconds apart early in the third on its way to doubling the margin in the period.

Both Bryce Kamenick, 19, from Eau-Claire, WI and Kyle Carignan, 19, from Oregon, WI, took a turn in goal for the Rangers, combining to turn aside 37 shots. At the other end, Taylor Unruh, 18, from Saskatchewan turned aside all 17 of the shots he faced.

Blake Berg, 19, from Hastings, MN paced the Ice Dogs offense with two goals and two assists, Zachary Schlitt, 19, from BC collecting three assists and Graham Gove, 19, from Saskatchewan also scoring a pair. Other goals came from: Braedyn Aubin, 17, from Ontario; Braedon Allkins, 18, from BC; Kent Wallchuk, 20, from Saskatchewan and Derek McPhail, 19, from Ontario.

The road doesn’t get any easier as the Rangers will play its seventh road game out of eight contests Saturday (Oct. 3) as it moves on to play the defending champion Fort Frances Lakers.
