Jenks fires a pair to help Walleye open up commanding series lead

A.J. Jenks fired a pair, including the game winner with just under four minutes to go as the Toledo Walleye picked up a 3-2 win at the Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne and grabbed a commanding 3-0 lead in its Best of Seven Central Division Final series with the host Komets on Wednesday (May 3, 2017).

The second Jenks goal capped a third period rally as the host Komets carried a 2-1 lead into the final 20 minutes with all three of the goals coming in the second period.

Goaltenders Jeff Lerg, for the Walleye and Garrett Bartus who got the start for the Komets, both tuned aside all the first period shots but Garrett Thompson changed the script in the second period scoring the first Komets’ goal just 29-seconds in.

Jenks fired his third of the season just before the halfway mark of the period but the Komets moved in front again with a goal from Gabriel Desjardins with 3:20 to go in the second.

Evan Rankin fired his sixth of the playoffs to pull the Walleye even again with 4:11 to go and Jenks scored the winner just 3:05 from the horn. Zach Nastasiuk collected assists on both Jenks goals.

The Komets will be playing for their playoff lives when they play host for Game Four at the Memorial Coliseum on Friday (May 5).
