Breton, Donnay and Palmer sign with ECHL Mavericks

The Kansas City Mavericks added a forward and a couple defenseman to its pre-season roster Wednesday (Sept. 6, 2017), bringing its roster total to 17 – nine forwards, seven defensemen and a goaltender.

The Mavericks are affiliated with the Stockton Heat of the American Hockey League and the Calgary Flames of the NHL.

Forward Justin Breton, 29, from Massachusetts played a dozen games with the Mavs at the end of the 2016-17 season, collecting three assists. With other stops in Alaska and Kalamazoo, the 6’1,” 194 lbs. winger totaled 21 points (9g, 12a) in 59 games.

Breton will be starting his fourth season as a pro, playing two previous in Alaska after graduating from Bentley College where he played 140 games and collected 65 points (27g, 38a).

Also added to the team are defenders Troy Donnay and Tyler Palmer.

Donnay, a 23-year-old native of Fenton, MI is entering his third season in the ECHL after making his pro debut with 11 points in 61 games with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, also getting the call to play one game with the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack.

Last season, Donnay, a 6’7”, 203 lbs. defender played another 61 games in Greenville, collecting 17 points (3g, 14a) and 72 PIM with an overall +4 rating.

Donnay played five seasons in the OHL, starting with the London Knights eventually traded to the Erie Otters, where he wore an ‘A’ on his jersey for three seasons. In total, Donnay appeared in 254 OHL contests, collecting 59 points (8g, 51a) and 249 PIM with a +1 rating.

Palmer, a 23-year-old, 6’3,” 185 lbs. defender will be making his pro debut this fall having finished a four-year run at Grant McEwan University in the spring of 2016 and sitting out last season.

Palmer, a native of Alberta, appeared in 72 games with the Canadian College team, picking up 25 points (5g, 20a) and 32 PIM.

Before that, Palmer played most of his junior with the Grande Prairie Storm of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.
