The Soo Eagles expected a tough game in Sudbury Thursday night but managed to stay with the host Cubs through 40 minutes.

However, a 4-1 edge through the final 20 resulted in an 8-4 win for the Greater Sudbury Cubs who boosted its Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) record to 3-0 while the Eagles dropped its second straight, both on the road.
Teams were even at 1-1 after the first frame.
There were a few bright spots though for the Eagles finding their way early in the season. Among them, Kenny Belanger Jr. (’04/Sault Ste. Marie, ON) who fired a pair of goals while Benjamin Pouliot (’04/Howell, MI) and Jack Paweski (’04/Brighton, MI) both added a goal and assist.

Oliver Smith (’03/Lively, ON) paced the Cubs with a three-goal game.
The Eagles will head back to work on Friday preparing for one more tough road test, traveling to Espanola to face the 2-0 Paper Kings on Saturday. Following the tough start on the road, the Eagles will wrap up September with four at Pullar Stadium beginning Sept. 22 when the Iroquois Falls Storm pays a visit.
