Wings edge Bruins in Beantown

The latest pre-season test for the Detroit Red Wings took place in Boston where a 31-save performance from Jimmy Howard helped the team capture a 3-1 road win.

A number of young hopefuls were included in the Red Wings’ lineup and some of them proved their worth. Andreas Athanasiou put the Wings up 3-0 in the opening minute of the final period with his goal, from Tomas Nosek and Tomas Jurco and it was Mitch Callahan and Xavier Ouellet drawing assists on an earlier goal by Jurco.

The first Wings goal broke a scoreless deadlock 7:11 into the middle frame, Drew Miller pulling the trigger with help from Daniel Cleary and Joakim Andersson.

Loui Eriksson scored the lone Bruins’ goal, robbing Howard of a shutout just 51 seconds shy of the final buzzer.
