Wildcats take one away from Roadrunners

After starting off the regular season with a win, the Roadrunners faced a different Wichita Falls Wildcats team on Saturday night and wound up with a weekend split after a 6-2 loss.

Once again, this was the only Midwest-based game of the night.

All but two of the game’s eight goals came in the opening period as the host Roadrunners held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 but found themselves trailing 4-2 at the end of 20 minutes.

The Wildcats added single markers in the second and third periods to put this one away.

Leading the way offensively for the Wildcats was Jeff Baum, a ’96 from Texas who scored twice while Austin Beaulieu, a ’96 from Florida and Nick Rosa, a ’96 from Birmingham, MI both picked up a goal and assist. Ben Lown, a ’98 from California had two assists with other goals coming from Andre Pison, a ’95 from Denmark and  Adam Goodsir, a ’98 from Okemos, MI.

For the Roadruners, Max Harper, a ’96 from Rochester Hills, MI and Carlos Fornaris, a ’95 from Florida both scored.

In other league play on Sept. 12, the Fairbanks Ice Dogs swept its weekend series with Kenai River Brown Bears taking a 7-3 edge while the Amarillo Bulls doubled the Odessa Jackalopes 6-3.

Next action for the Roadrunners will be on Friday, Sept. 18 as the Corpus Christi Stingrays come to town for a pair.
