Stars sign Weber to PTO

The Iowa Stars could be getting some big time help on the blue line after signing veteran NHL defenseman Mike Weber to a PTO on Thursday (Oct. 20).

Weber, 28, was a Second Round (57th Overall) Selection of the Buffalo Sabres at the 2006 NHL Entry Draft and he started his 351 game career in the NHL with the Sabres the following season. Last season Weber was traded to the Washington Capitals and this summer he signed a PTO with the St. Louis Blues. He was released from that deal on Oct. 7.

While ultimately looking for a shot in Minnesota, Weber brings a ton of pro experience to the blue line of the 1-2-0-0 Wild as it looks to climb into playoff contention in the tough Central Division.

In other AHL Transaction news Thursday, Jacob Graves was added to the roster of the Cleveland Monsters by the Columbus Blue Jackets. A 21-year-old defenseman from Ontario, Graves is set to make his pro debut with the Monsters after playing the past four seasons as a junior in the Ontario Hockey League. Graves split time between the London Knights and Oshawa Generals, collecting 21 points (1g, 20a) in 69 games and then playing a part in the Memorial Cup playoff run for the Knights.

There was also a transaction in the ECHL as Andrew Huff signed a Standard Player Contract with the Fort Wayne Komets.

Huff, 24, from Howell MI is a 6’1,” 212 lbs. left winger who graduated from Ferris State University in the spring of 2015 and has since played in 85 ECHL contests picking up 34 points (12g, 22a) with the Rapid City Rush, Florida Everblades and Wichita Thunder.
