Milano proving he belongs in Columbus

Blue Jackets fans – Sonny Milano has arrived.

A First Round (14th Overall) Selection by the Columbus Blue Jackets, the 21-year-old native of New York has taken a bit of a scenic route to the NHL, but so far this season, he appears to have been worth the wait.

After opening the scoring with his third goal of the season just past the halfway mark of the third period at the PNC Arena in Raleigh, Milano added another in overtime to lift the visiting Jackets to a 2-1 edge against the host Carolina Hurricanes

Before Milano’s goal which came 50:01 into the contest, the game was dominated by Sergei Bobrovsky and Scott Darling in the respective goals.

Bobrovsky collected the win, handling 37 of 38 Carolina shots – eluded only by a Jeff Skinner marker 85 seconds from the third period buzzer. Darling turned aside 25 shots in goal for the Canes.

The win boosted the Jackets to 2-1-0-0 so far and wrapped up a quick two-game road trip. The Jackets return to Nationwide Arena in Columbus to play the New York Rangers on Friday (Oct. 13) but then hit the road again for games at Minnesota’s Xcel Energy Center the following night against the Wild and then taking on the Jets at Winnipeg’s Bell MTS Place on Tuesday.
