Roeder ot tally pushes Jets past Ice Dogs

Adam Roeder, 19, from Ballwin, MO scored his second consecutive goal 1:54 into the overtime period to lift the host Janesville Jets to a 4-3 win against the North American Hockey League leading Fairbanks Ice Dogs at the Janesville Ice Arena Friday (Oct.2).

In other NAHL games involving Midwest-based teams on the same night: the host Springfield Blues edged the Coulee Region Chill 3-2; Topeka Roadrunners held off the Lone Star Brahma 4-3; Aberdeen captured a 2-1 road win against the Minnesota Magicians; Austin Bruins downed the host Brookings Blizzard 4-1 and the Minnesota Wilderness earned a 6-2 win at home against the Kenai River Brown Bears.

Ice Dogs 3 at Jets 4 (ot)

Along with the game winner in overtime, Roeder also scored the tying goal with 6:13 to go in the third period helping his team rally back from a 3-1 deficit after two. Both teams scored once in the first period.

Roberts Smits, 20, from Latvia scored a goal and added an assist for the Jets, Zach Solow, 17, from Florida and Taylor Fernandez, 20, from Northville, MI both setting up a pair and the other goal scored by Adam Winborg, 20, from Sweden.

For the Ice Dogs, goals came from: Cayden Cahill, 19, from Alaska; Alex Mehnert, 18, from Moorhead, MN and Aaron McPheters, 18, from Alaska.

Jack LaFontaine, 17, from Ontario stopped 29 shots to pick up the win in goal for the Jets and Gavin Nieto, 19, from California, handled 25 shots for the Ice Dogs.

The Ice Dogs and Jets will wrap up a two-game set Saturday (Oct. 3)

Chill 2 at Blues 3 

Drew Richter, 18, from Darien, IL put the Blues in front to stay late in the second period and the third period was scoreless as the Springfield Blues held on for a 3-2 win against the visiting Coulee Region Chill.

Michael Houle, 19, from Oxford, MI picked up a goal and assist, Anthony Scarsella, 19 from White Lake, MI  set up a pair and the other Blues goal came from Brady Tomlak, 19, from Oakland, MI.

Scott Corbett, 17, from Carmel, IN and Michael Wilson, 20, from Fond du Lac, WI both scored for the Chill.

Tommy Nappier, 17, from St. Louis, MO made 24 saves to pick up the win in goal for the Blues, Matiss Kivlenieks, 19, from Latvia turning aside 44 for the Chill.

The same two teams will meet again Saturday (Oct. 3).

Brahmas 3 at Roadrunners 4

The Topeka Roadrunners carried a 2-1 lead out of the first period at the Kansas ExpoCenter and both teams added one more in both the second and third periods, the Lone Star Brahmas getting within a goal with 10:08 to go but never able to sink the equalizer.

Marcus Russell, 19, from Traverse City, MI scored twice for the Roadrunners and Quinn Preston, 18, from Trenton, MI assisted on two with other goals added by Matt Jennings, 18, from Georgia and Luka Maver, 18, from Slovenia.

Alex Berardinelli, 20, from Pennsylvania; Oskar Andren, 20, from Sweden and Kyle Patava, 19, from Des Moines, IA scored the Lone Star goals with Cameron Clarke, 19, from Tecumseh, MI collecting two assists.

Tyler Johnson, 17, from New York made 16 saves to pick up the win for the Roadrunners and Corbin Kaczperski, 19, from Detroit, MI stopped 26 shots for the Brahmas.

The Brahmas and Roadrunners will tangle again on Saturday (Oct.3).

Wings 2 at Magicians 1

After a scoreless first period, Colin Raver, 19, from Bartlett, IL put the visiting Aberdeen Wings in front 12:13 into the middle frame, but Rico Ratajczyk, 19, from Germany pulled the Magicians even again 2:49 later, setting the stage for Gavin Payne, 19, from Minnetonka who fired the game winner with 9:09 to play in the game for the Wings.

Gavin Paczosa, 19, from Colorado stopped 26 shots to pick up the win for the Wings and Will Ulrich, 19, from Bloomfield Hills, MI turned aside 22 for the Magicians.

The Wings will stick around for another game against the Magicians on Saturday (Oct.3).

Bruins 4 at Blizzard 1

Austin Bruins made itself comfortable at the Larson Ice Center in Brookings, scoring three times in the opening period and adding one more in more in the middle period to carry a 4-0 lead into the third.

Christian Canavati, 19, from Alexandria  gained a small consolation for the host Blizzard, his goal with 4:21 to play in the game the only one of 25 shots to beat Kristofer Carlson, 18, from Virginia, in goal for the Bruins.

Travis Kothenbeutel, 18, from Sauk Rapids, MN scored a goal and added an assist for the Bruins with other goals scored by: Luke Forfar, 19, from Darien, IL; Dawson DiPietro, 20, from Medina, OH and Evan Cholak, 18, from Kenosha, WI.

Eric Hancock, 20, from North Royalton, OH made 11 saves in the first period for the Blizzard and Josh Kuehmichel, 19, from Hopkins, MN was beaten just once on 16 shots through the final 40 minutes.

The same two teams will tangle again Saturday (Oct. 3), this time in Austin.

Brown Bears 2 at Wilderness 6

A five-goal explosion in the second turned a narrow 1-0 cushion into an insurmountable 6-0 lead for the host Minnesota Wilderness at the Northwoods Credit Union Arena. Kenai River Brown Bears finally put one by Chase Munroe, 20, from Naperville, IL late in the second and the Bears added one more in the final period as well.

Tyler Vold, 19, from Andover, MN; Ashton Calder, 17, from Sault, Ste. Marie, MI and Jacob Hamacher, 18, from California each contributed a goal and an assist for the Wilderness with other goals scored by: Malo Ville, 20, from France, Alex Toscano, 20, from Duluth, MN and Tyler Cline, 20, from Blaine, MN.

Jeffrey Fasegha, 18, from Alberta and Sam Carlson, 20, from Alaska scored the Brown Bears goals and Brian Baker, 20, from Pennsylvania made 36 saves for Kenai River.

The Wilderness will host the Brown Bears again on Saturday (Oct.3).
