Dimoff ot winner moves NAHL Wings past Minotauros

After nearly 89 long minutes, the Minot Minotauros’ season came to a sudden finish thanks to a shot by Carson Dimoff at the Odde Ice Center in Aberdeen on Saturday (April 22).

Dimoff, 16, from Arizona hit the mesh 8:53 into the second overtime period to give the underdog Aberdeen Wings a 3-2 game win and a 3-1 series win against the Central Division regular season champion Minotauros.

The Wings started out the series with wins in both games at Minot the previous weekend, but the Minotauros stayed alive in the Best-of-Five series with a 7-1 win.

In other action on the same night, the Brookings Blizzard pushed its Best-of-Five Division semi to the five-game limit with a 4-1 win against the Minnesota Wilderness.

Minotauros 2 at Wings 3 (2ot)

After falling in a lopsided contest the previous day, it was the Wings busting out of the game and opening a 2-0 first period lead with goals by Tyler Bossert, 20, from Fargo, ND and Adam Pitters, 17, from Grosse Pointe, MI in the first 10 minutes of the game.
The visitors chipped away though Austin Koss, 19, from California notching one before the end of the opening period and Charles Weiand, 19, from Rosemont, MN evening it up at 2-2 late in the middle period.

That set the stage for Dimoff’s overtime game/series winner on the 39th shot of the game faced by Austin Park, 18, from Colorado, in the Minot goal. Forbes Ploszaj, 20, from Arizona, made 34 saves in goal for the Wings.

Wilderness 1 at Blizzard 4

All five goals, including a pair of Blizzard empty netters came in the final 25 minutes of this contest as the Blizzard forced a fifth and deciding game in the series with the Wilderness.

After splitting a pair on home ice the previous weekend, the Wilderness grabbed control of the series with a 4-2 win at the Larson Ice Center in Brookings Friday, only to have the home team rally to force one more dance.

After a scoreless first period, it was Connor Koviak, 20, from Canton, MI scoring the lone goal of the middle period from Cameron Teamer, 18, from South Bend, IN and Paul Cotter, 16, from Canton MI, 4:23 into the second period on a powerplay for the Blizzard who carried the 1-0 cushion into the final 20 minutes.

Teamor found the mesh for Brookings 5:54 into the third to double the margin from Roman Ahcan, 17, from Savage, MN and Derek Hammer, 19, from Woodbury, MN.

Dylan Mills, 16, from Cottage Grove, MN notched a powerplay with just 1:56 to go from Luke Dow, 19, from Duluth, MN and Alexander Esbjors, 20, from Sweden to get the Wilderness on the board.

But the home team got empty netters from Ahcan and Koviak to put this one away.

Josh Boyko, 20, from Ontario stopped 29 of 30 to nail down the win in goal for the Blizzard while Luke Kania, 21, from Chicago, IL handled 22 of 24 shots in goal for the Wilderness.

Game five of this series will be played at the Northwood Credit Union Arena in Cloquet, MN on Monday (April 24)
