Blackhawks forward, Cassetti commits to Merrimac

Waterloo, Iowa (Courtesy Waterloo Black Hawks) –From the beginning of March through the end of the 2017/18 regular season, forward Joey Cassetti recorded ten points (three goals, seven assists) in 14 games, providing a timely boost for the Waterloo Black Hawks during a dramatic run to the USHL’s Anderson Cup regular season championship.

The 19-year-old is returning for his second season in Waterloo this fall, and Tuesday, the Black Hawks announced that he has committed to Merrimack College for the 2019/20 school year.

“Joey had a strong finish to the season,” said Black Hawks Head Coach and General Manager P.K. O’Handley.  “Every player wants to be playing at a high level at the end of the season, and I know that led to a lot of enthusiasm as he approached his summer regime.”

The 2017/18 campaign was Cassetti’s third in the USHL following two years with the U.S. National Team Development Program.  In 44 regular season games for the Black Hawks, he recorded eight goals and ten assists.  Cassetti also netted two goals and an assist in eight playoff appearances.

With Tuesday’s announcement, Cassetti becomes the 19th Black Hawks player with a college commitment among the 24 who appeared for the team during a 2018 playoff game.  The Merrimack Warriors are members of the Hockey East conference.
