Paterson stops 39 in Walleye win

Jake Paterson turned aside all 39 of the shots he faced Tuesday night in leading the visiting Toledo Walleye to a 5-0 shutout win against the Cincinnati Cyclones at US Bank Arena in Cincinnati Tuesday (Oct. 18).

Paterson, 22, was a Third Round (80th Overall) selection by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft and he was making his second start of the season for the Walleye on Tuesday.

While Paterson was making the saves, Kyle Bonis contributed a big chunk of the offense in the win. Bonis, 27, scoring his fourth and fifth goals of the young season and also added an assist along the way.

Jacob MacDonald, Alden Hirschfeld and Tyler Sikura scored the other Cyclone markers.

Mark Visentin made 26 saves in goal for the host Cyclones.

The Walleye move on to north of the border to start a weekend home and home series with the Brampton Beast on Friday night. Other Midwest teams in action on Friday night include: The Fort Wayne Komets at the Wings Event Center to play the Kalamazoo Wings; the Indy Fuel in Tulsa to play the Oilers‘ home opener at the BOK Center; Missouri Mavericks visiting the Wichita Thunder at INTRUST Bank Arena and the Quad City Mallards at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center to face the Rapid City Rush.

Next up for the Cyclones will be a home game against the Wheeling Nailers on Saturday night.
