New year — new strategy

Clearly Midwesthockey.info has been basically non-existent for most of the past six weeks or so.

The plan is for that to change with the arrival of a new calendar year.

Health issues and other commitments have unfortunately taken precedence in recent weeks, but the vision of this website becoming a solid voice of hockey in the midwest will not die. It has been in the works too long to give up this quickly. Plus, things are just starting to get good,. Look for a more serious commitment in all areas — the website, youtube style updates and my ultimate goal of running a streaming type program to offer live updates. The latter is the one I am excited about when there are several key matches on at the same time at several different levels.

Here is my plan for getting onto a regular schedule.

  1. In the days ahead, I will post round-up type stories on each league I cover, beginning with Pro I will give an idea of where the five Midwest-based NHL teams stand and how the rest of the season looks for them, then move on to the AHL, ECHL and finally the SPHL. There will be just one story on each. Then I will move on to the various junior leagues and take a quick look at either their second half, or in the case of some of the Tier 3 level leagues, the stretch run of the regular season. Time permitting, I will also take my first foray into the College hockey scene with hopes of offering the Midwest based teams some regular coverage through the second half as well.
  2. I hope to begin doing vlogs on various levels again as early as Jan. 1, but definitely within the first week of the New Year.

Following that, I hope to finally be up to date and stay that way with regular daily updates on the various comings and goings of the league. Game updates have been my bread and butter so far and while I hope to still offer that type of coverage, I am hoping to scour newspapers and websites for more personal and off ice angles as well — ie. trade rumors, any special occurences and that type of thing.

I feel guilty as although I have been away and inactive, this site is actually getting some decent looks — a change from when I was most active and daily views was a single digit number.

Here’s hoping this time this thing not only flies, but stays in the damn air.

Bring on 2016.
