NA3HL Blizzard gets by North Stars 3-1

A pair of West Division teams got a jump on the weekend in the NA3HL Thursday (Sept. 17) night as the Alexandria Blizzard opened its regular season with a 3-1 win on home ice against the Breezy Point North Stars.

The Stars fell to 0-2 on the regular season, but it wasn’t until an empty net goal by Jack Cernohous, 19, from Hudson, WI sank an empty netter with just seven seconds to play that this one was in the bag.

Teams were even at 1-1 heading to the third period as Aaron Ryback, 20, from Manitoba scored the only goal of the first period for the host Blizzard, but Christian Lenzmeier, a 19-year-old forward, from West Fargo, ND notched the equalizer in the middle period.

Mason Hautala, 18, from Osseo, MN scored the game winner for the Blizzard 3:12 into the final period and Evan Bizek, 20, from New Prague, MN stopped 22 of 23 shots fired at him to pick up the win in goal.

At the opposite end, Wes Paupore, 20, from Kingsford, MI stopped 27 of 29.
