Mallards add McGrath-Pohlkamp to roster

The Quad City Mallards of the ECHL announced a couple of signings on Tuesday (Sept. 5, 2017) on both the team and league website.

The Mallards, affiliated with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League and Las Vegas Golden Knights of the NHL signed Ryan McGrath, a 26-year-old forward from O’Fallon, MO and Matt Pohlkamp, a 24-year-old winger from Lake City, MN.

McGrath finished his four-year stint at U-Mass Lowell in the spring of 2016 and wrapped up the campaign, making his pro debut with the Manchester Monarchs of the ECHL. Last year, the young center/winger took his act across the ocean, picking up 58 points (25g, 33a) in 42 games with EC Harzer Falken in a German Pro League.

McGrath appeared in 139 games at UMass-Lowell, collecting 60 points (25g, 35a) and before that he played a couple of seasons with the Cedar Rapids Roughriders in the USHL.

McGrath will still qualify as a rookie in the ECHL this fall as the Mallards look to take advantage of his offensive numbers.

Pohlkamp graduated from Bowling Green State University this past spring and made his pro debut with the Toledo Walleye, appearing in the final nine games of the regular season and collecting three points.

In his four years at Bowling Green Pohlkamp played in 160 points and picked up 88 points (38g, 50a).

Before moving on to College Pohlkamp played 30 games with the Fargo Force of the USHL and another 18 with the Bismarck Bobcats of the NAHL.
