Jenks fires winner for Walleye against Mallards

A.J. Jenks fired the game winner 4:48 from the end of the middle period as the Toledo Walleye opened the 2017-18 ECHL campaign with a 3-2 edge against the host Quad City Mallards at Taxslayer Center in Moline, IL on Friday (Oct. 13, 2017).

The Walleye, ECHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings and Grand Rapids Griffins first two goals in the game’s first three minutes – Patrick McCarron and Zach Nastasiuk pulling the trigger, but by the time Jenks added a third late in the middle period, the home team had evened the score.

Sam Warning notched the first goal for the Mallards, ECHL affiliate of the Vegas Golden Knights and Chicago Wolves to get the home team within a goal late in the opening period. The other goal came from Tristan King just past the halfway mark of the second.

Pat Nagle picked up the win in goal with a 20-save game and C.J. Motte turned aside 30 in goal for the Mallards.

The Walleye moves on to Fort Wayne Saturday, playing the host Komets at Memorial Coliseum. The Mallards will stay on home ice, hosting the Tulsa Oilers in games on Saturday and then Wednesday.
