Callahan hat trick helps Griffins to Game Four win

Mitch Callahan fired a hat trick while Eric Tangradi and Evgeny Svechnikov both picked up three helpers as the Grand Rapids captured a 6-3 win against the Chicago Wolves at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids on Monday (May 8, 2017).

The win gives the Griffins a commanding 3-1 lead in its Best of Seven Central Division final series.

Callahan fired his first goal 15:05 into the game and it stood up as the only goal of the first period.

Kyle Criscuolo added another for the Griffs 2:17 into the middle frame but Kenny Agostino struck back with two goals in 3:59 to tie it up for the Wolves.  The tie lasted just 74 seconds though, Martin Frk putting the Griffins in front to stay and Callahan adding his second with two seconds to go in the period to make it a 4-2 game.

Tage Thompson pulled one back for the Wolves 2:42 into the final frame, but Matt Lorito restored the two goal margin a little over six minutes later.

Callahan’s third goal came into an empty Wolves’ goal with 50 seconds to play.

Jared Coreau handled 24 of 27 shots to pick up the win in goal for the Griffins and Ville Husso made 32 saves for the Wolves.

The Griffins will get its first shot at wrapping up the series when it shifts back to the Allstate Arena in Chicago for Game Five on Saturday (May 13).
