Aberg leads Ads past Ice Hogs

Pontus Aberg notched a pair of goals and helped the host Milwaukee Admirals get by the Rockford IceHogs Friday (Oct. 2) 5-2 at the Kern Center Arena, on the campus of the Milwaukee School of Engineering.

The game as the first of two pre-season exhibition matches for the Admirals and second of two games for the Ice Hogs who also fell in shootout at home to Chicago the previous night.

The IceHogs were first on the board as Mike McNeil netted the opener just 17 seconds into the contest.

However, the Ads struck back for a pair late in the frame, Max Reinhart and Felix Girard for a 2-1 lead moving into the middle frame. Aberg scored his first early in the second period and added another about seven minutes later to put the Admirals up 4-1.

Kyle Stroh pulled one back for the Ice Hogs late in the second, but Max Goertz restored the three goal cushion just 16 seconds later for the hosts.

The third period was scoreless and Juuse Saros turned aside 23 shots in goal for the Ads to pick up the win and Mac Carruth was between the pipes for the IceHogs.

The Admirals will travel to Chicago Saturday (Oct. 3) to wrap up its preseason while the IceHogs wrap up an 0-1-0-1 pre-season and begin preparations to head to the West Coast and start the American Hockey League regular season Oct. 9 at San Jose against the Barracuda.
