Griffs open camp on home ice

The Grand Rapids Griffins, top minor league afiliate of the Detroit Red Wings, officially opened camp at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids Monday (Sept. 28) with 22 players in attendance including:

Forwards — Martin Frk; Marek Tvrdon; Jeff Hoggan; Kurt Etchegary; Alden Hirschfeld; Jean-Paul LaFontaine; Evan Rankin; Joel Rechlicz; Josh Shalla; Tyler Sikura; Austin Wurthrich and Dominic Zombo;

Defense – Richard Nedomiel; Nathan Paetschl Matt Corrente; Derek Docken; Ralfs Freibergs; Jared Nightingale; Andrew Prochno and Steve Spinelli along with

Goaltenders – Jake Paterson and Neil Conway.

The Griffs will head into practice for five days leading up to a pair of neutral site exhibition games. The Griffins will make the trip to Bowling Green State University to face the Lake Erie Monsters, now a top minor league team for the Columbus Blue Jackets before meeting the following night at the Windsor Family Credit Union Arena at Windsor, ON.

The Griffs will make a trip to the West Coast to open the season Oct. 9 at Bakersfield against the Condors and will play its first home games the following weekend against the San Antonio Rampage.
