Glendenning fires winner as Wings double Coyotes 4-2

Four different shooters hit the score sheet and Jimmy Howard collected his third win of the season with 33 saves as the visiting Detroit Red Wings rallied for two unanswered third period goals to pull out a 4-2 win in Phoenix against the host Arizona Coyotes Thursday (Sept. 12, 2017) at Gila River Arena.

After a scoreless opening segment, both teams scored twice in the middle frame, rookie Clayton Keller giving the host leads of 1-0 and 2-1 with the Wings responding with goals from Martin Frk and Henrik Zetterberg. Mike Green picked up assists on both goals, his seventh and eighth helpers of the young season and Dylan Larkin, also off to a good start, collected his third assist.

Luke Glendenning sank the game winner just 3:24 from the final buzzer from Larkin and Howard and Frans Nielsen clinched the win with his first of the year into an empty Coyotes’ cage with 1:34 to go. Darren Helm and Jonathan Ericsson picked up assists on the goal.

Louis Domingue and Antti Raanta shared the work in goal for the Coyotes, combining on a 29-save effort. The win boosted the Wings’ record to 3-1 on the season and they will look to stay hot on Friday (Oct. 13) when they wrap up a four-game road trip at the T-Mobile Arena in Vegas against the host and undefeated Golden Knights.
