Eagles struggle to find offense

While limiting the potent Soo Thunderbirds to three goals is a feather in its camp, the Soo Eagles continue to struggle offensively of late, surrendering a 3-1 decision to the visiting Thunderbirds at Pullar Stadium Friday (Oct. 2).

The Eagles have just three goals in its past four games and despite a solid 40 save effort from Jack Hickey, 20, from Hinsdale, IL came up short.

Both teams were scoreless in the opening period, Drake Pilon, a home town Soo (ON) resident celebrating his 17th birthday with the game’s first goal for the Thunderbirds 6:50 into the middle frame. Matthew Mitchell, 20, also from the Soo (ON) added another for the visitors late in the second period.

Ryan Morse, 19, from Cadillac, MI got the Eagles on the board with the only shot of 31 that would beat Nathan Warren, 20, from BC early in the third on an Eagles’ powerplay.

Matthew Busby, 18, from Shanty Bay, ON also scored on a powerplay near the five minute mark for the Thunderbirds to wrap up the scoring.

The Eagles will look to shake off a four-game winless streak when it crosses the border for a rematch against the Thunderbirds on the Ontario side of Sault Ste Marie Saturday (Oct. 3).
