NOJHL Eagles wrap up win-tie on home ice

The Soo Eagles shrugged off its rough previous weekend and broke into the win column in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Friday (Sept. 18).

After dropping both ends of a cross-border series with the Soo Thunderbirds the previous weekend, the Eagles hosted the Blind River Beavers at Pullar Stadium and collected a 4-1 win.

The hosts grabbed a 2-0 first period lead as Nate Harris, 19, from Northbrook, IL opened the scoring at the 12:04 mark and Evan Ketner, 19, from Washington, MI added a shorthanded goal about three minutes later.

Blind River’s Andrew Trowbridge got his team on the board late in the second period and Jacob Palmerio, 18, from Ontario restored the two goal margin just before the halfway mark of the final period.

Dayton Honkananen, 18, from Arden Hills, MN fired the final Eagles goal into an empty net with 35 seconds to play.

Jack Deines, 19, from Livonia, MI stopped 24 shots to pick up the win in goal for the Eagles. Martin Miloslavich, from Chicago turned aside 34 of 37 in goal for the Beavers.

The Eagles are scheduled to stay on home ice for a visit from the Timmins Rock Saturday (Sept. 19) to wrap up the weekend.
