Eagles host Beavers/Rock

After a tough opening weekend, the Soo Eagles will get a couple of chances to break into the win column on home ice this weekend.

The Eagles ran straight into the Soo Thunderbirds, ranked ninth in the Canadian Junior Hockey League’s pre-season Top 20 in its opening weekend, falling 5-2 on the road (Sault Ste. Marie, ON) and 6-3 on home ice at the Pullar Stadium in Sault Ste. Marie, MI.

This weekend, the Eagles will stay on home ice, facing the Blind River Beavers in action Friday night (Sept. 18) and the Timmins Rock the following night.

The Beavers head into the first game with a 1-2 record, dropping its opener 6-1 at Elliot Lake last Friday against the Wildcats but bouncing back with an 11-2 win in its home opener against the French River Rapids. The Beavers also played the T-birds on the road Wednesday night and dropped a 6-1 decision.

The Rock is also 1-2 heading into the weekend, falling 4-2 at Kirkland Lake against the Gold Miners last Friday, but winning its own home opener at the McIntyre Center the following night against the same team by a 6-1 margin. The Timmins crew was at Iroquois Falls earlier this week and came up just short 8-6 against the Eskis. The Rock will also play the Soo Thunderbirds on Friday, before crossing the border Saturday.
