Daley’s overtime winner lifts Hawks to win

One of the newest faces in the lineup of the defending Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks lineup helped his new club start out the pre-season right, Trevor Daley‘s overtime tally lifting the Hawks to a 5-4 win at the United Center against the visiting Detroit Red Wings.

The Hawks opened up a 2-0 first period lead and maintained the margin at 3-1 through two. The hosts were up 4-1 early in third but the guests pushed the game to an overtime segment with three goals in the final 14 minutes of the contest.

Daley and his former Dallas Stars teammate Ryan Garbutt, both put up a goal and assist in the game for the Hawks to show they are comfortable in the new surroundings.  Captain Jonathan Toews also collected a goal and assist in the game and Brent Seabrook set up a pair. Other Hawks goals came from Tuevo Teravainen and Kyle Baun

 

Scott Darling stopped all of the first 22 shots for Detroit in the game and Mark Visentin played the final 31:47, handling 12 of 16 shots against.

Riley Sheahan paced the Wings attack with a goal and assist while Nathan Paetsch and Andy Miele both picked up a couple of assists.

Anthony Mantha, Luke Glendenning and Teemu Pulkkinen scored the other Detroit goals. Jimmy Howard played the first half in goal, stopping 18 of 21 shots before Tom McCollum came, in, stopping 14 of 16 the rest of the way.

Darling and Toews earned First and Second Star honors for the Hawks and Miele of the Wings was named Third Star.

The same two teams are scheduled to go at it again on Wednesday (Sept. 23) at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.
