Anisimov caps Hawks’ comeback in overtime

Artem Anisimov gathered in the rebound of a shot by teammate Artemi Panarin and buried it past goaltender Keith Kincaid as the icing on a come from behind win for the Chicago BlackHawks who bested the host New Jersey Devils 3-2 in overtime at the Prudential Center in Newark in one of two NHL games involving Midwest based teams on Friday (Oct. 28) in the NHL.

The other game saw Sergei Bobrovsky kicking out 35 shots in a 4-0 shutout win for the Columbus Blue Jackets at the Honda Center against the host Anaheim Ducks.

BlackHawks 3 at Devils 2 (ot)

Marian Hossa set up the overtime win with his powerplay tally 2:11 from the final buzzer to push the game to overtime after Devils defenseman John Moore put his team in front 4:06 into the final period.

Hawks never led until the overtime goal as P.A. Parenteau fired his third of the season for the Devils in the opening period and Panarin evened it up with the lone goal of the second.

Corey Crawford made 30 saves to collect the extra time win in goal for the Hawks while Kincaid handled 26 of 29 in goal for the Devils.

Hawks have played overtime periods in each of its past three games now, but this was the first that was settled in that session — the earlier games seeing the Hawks win a shootout against the Toronto Maple Leafs, but than drop a shootout to the Calgary Flames, both at the United Center in Chicago.

Blue Jackets 4 at Ducks 0

The Jackets collected the win in Anaheim to wrap up a 1-1-1-0 road trip to California, all four Blue Jackets’ goals coming in a span of 3:58 in the middle part of the opening period.

Sam Gagner notched his first at the 10:12 mark and Brandon Saad fired his second of the season just 21 seconds later and also scored the third Columbus goal with 6:10 to go in the opening period. Then it was Gagner’s turn for a quick rebuttal as he fired his second of the game 20 seconds after Saad’s second.

Columbus held a 19-12 edge in shots in the opening period and held a 37-35 edge overall.

John Gibson stopped 28 of 32 for the Ducks and Dustin Tokarski took a turn in goal for about 10 minutes, stopping all five of the shots he faced in that time.

The Jackets will get the rest of the weekend off as it returns to Columbus and entertains the Dallas Stars on Tuesday (Nov. 1)
