All or nothing finale at U-18 Womens series

Team Canada rallied back on Friday (August 18, 2017) with a 3-0 win over the Team USA U-18 Women’s Hockey Team, leaving a winner-take all Game Three at Lake Placid, NY on Sunday.

With USA capturing a 4-1 win in the opener, the two rivals will be even in every category heading to the third and final game of the 2017 U-18 Series.

Calla Frank, 16, from Hugo, MN handled 25 of 28 shots from the Canadian shooters, but the White Bear Lake High School keeper was overshadowed a bit in this one by Madelyn McArthur in goal for the Canadians, stopping all 26 of the shots she faced.

Sarah Fillier fired the only goal of the opening period for the Canadians and it ultimately stood up as the game winner, backed up by second period markers from Claire Dalton and Zoe Boyd.

Game three will be played on Sunday afternoon.

Team USA and Team Canada have alternated sites on the U-18 Series since 2007, winning the series with two wins and a shootout defeat last season, but that win snapped a stretch of five straight wins for the Canadian side. Overall, the Canadians hold a 7-3 edge in series wins and now an overall record of 13-1-3-13 overall.

Team USA is beginning its preparation for the 2018 IIHF World Championship tournament scheduled to be played in Dmitrov, Russia in January.
