Zaba to work with Storm goaltenders

Kearney, Neb (Courtesy Tri-City Storm) – Tri-City Storm Head Coach and General Manager Anthony Noreen has named Matt Zaba the team’s goaltending coach.

Zaba, 34, spent the last two seasons as a volunteer assistant coach at his alma mater Colorado College and played goaltender professionally for eight seasons (2007-15). He is the co-founder of Mountain High Hockey, where he specializes in working with goaltenders.

A former eighth-round selection of the Los Angeles Kings in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Zaba played three seasons in the North American professional leagues. From 2007-10, he tended for four teams over 98 games and played one game with the New York Rangers in 2010.
“I’m excited to join the USHL ranks,” Zaba said. “I’ve heard great things from [former Storm assistant] Taylor Nelson and we’ve chatted about the team and the goalies coming in. It seems like a great opportunity.”
Noreen added, “Matt was a successful goaltender at all levels of competition. He’s been running a goalie school and has a lot of hands-on experience working with goaltenders. He’s going to bring a wealth of knowledge to our goaltenders through his teaching and experience.”

Prior to his professional career, Zaba spent four years at Colorado College (2003-07) and compiled a career record of 55-42-10. Zaba was named to the All-WCHA Rookie Team in 2003-04 and backstopped the Tigers to the NCAA Tournament as a starter in 2005-06. He played 18 games in 2004-05 during Colorado College’s run to the 2005 Frozen Four.
A native of Yorkton, SK, Zaba led the Vernon Vipers to the 2003 Fred Page Cup and won the BCHL’s Most Valuable Player award with a 2.21 goals against average.
