Thunder falls short against Vengeance

Despite an improved solid effort, the Cincinnati Thunder came up short in its second game of the weekend at Pittsburgh.

Thanks in part to some steady goaltending by Daniel Dolliver in the Thunder goal, teams played through a scoreless first period but the host Vengeance grabbed control of the contest with two goals in 2:25 in the first half of the period.

Marc Anderson, a 5’9,” 163 lbs. ’95 forward from Canton, MI notched his second of the weekend for Cincinnati, converting a feed from Justin Bioni late in the second but that ended up being the team’s only goal and another for the Vengeance with 8:15 to play gave the home side a little insurance down the homestretch.

The Thunder will be off next weekend, giving the team until Sept. 18 to prepare for a home-opening Saturday-Sunday doubleheader against the Toledo Cherokee.

Five Midwest teams will head into action on Friday night as the NA3HL opens its second weekend of play. An all-Wisconsin battle will see the La Crosse Freeze heading to Oregon, new home of the Wisconsin Whalers as both teams open their respective seasons. Meanwhile, an all-Minnesota battle will see the Twin City Steel heading to Breezy Point to meet the North Stars and the West Michigan Wolves will make the trip to Jamestown, NY to faceoff against the Southern Tier Express.
