Third period rally lifts Thunder to road win

Slow and steady seems to work just fine for the Wichita Thunder.

Coming off of a last place finish in the Western Conference last season, the Wichita Thunder has found itself an NHL affiliate with the Ottawa Senators and that could be a factor in a nice start to the campaign. Through the first two weekends, the Thunder eased itself in, playing just twice, earning a split on home ice.

On Tuesday (Oct. 25), the team rolled to a winning start on the road with a 3-1 win at North Chaleston Coliseum against the South Carolina Stingrays.

All three of the Thunder goals came in the final period as Alexis Loiseau wiped out a 1-0 deficit with his goal 4:21 in, Matt DeBlouw fired the game winner, his second of the season with 8:18 to go and Alex Krushelnyski clinched the win with his empty netter 47 seconds from the final buzzer.

Just one of 33 Stingrays shots eluded Drew Owsley, a 25-year-old native of Lethbridge AB who made a successful pro debut after playing the previous four seasons at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia.

That shot came off of the stick of Patrick Gaul 8:27 into the first period and Adam Carlson, 22, from Edina, MN was also making his pro debut in goal for the Stingrays with a 26 save effort after playing last season at Mercyhurst University.
