Spirit and Firebirds both part of OHL opening night

The Ontario Hockey League released its 2015-16 schedule earlier this month and all three of the American entries will be among the six league teams with the earliest opening night.

The two Midwest entries, the Flint Firebirds and Saginaw Spirit will go head to head as the Flint squad makes its OHL debut at the Dow Event Center in Saginaw on Sept. 24. Meanwhile, the other American entry, the Erie Otters will head across the bridge to Windsor to open against the Spitfires and the Ottawa 67’s will round out the opening night schedule at Peterborough against the Petes.

Two nights later the Spirits and Firebirds will meet again, this time at the Perani Arena in Flint as the Firebirds team plays its first home game. Both teams will wrap up a long home season March 19 on home ice.
