Shoudy overtime goal lifts Bucs to 3-0 USHL start

Tiernan Shoudy (’02/St. Clair, MI — Michigan State) fired his second of the game 4:32 into overtime, lifting the host Des Moines Buccaneers to a 4-3 win against the visiting Omaha Lancers at Buccaneer Arena, Friday (Oct. 1).
The win keeps the Bucs perfect at 3-0 early in the United States Hockey League season.
His goal also neutralized some momentum for the Lancers who forced the overtime with a pair of third period goals to erase a 3-1 defict.
Mitchell Wolfe (’02/Andover, MN — Bemidji State) and Killian Kiecker-Olson (’01/Andover, MN) scored the other Buccaneer goals.
Cade Ahrenholz (’02/Lakeville, MN) scored twice for the Lancers and it was Alex Bump (’03/Prior Lake, MN) tying the game in the third period.
Chicago Steel 2 @ Madison Capitols 3 (ot)
Another game that went to extra time saw Quinn Finley (’04/Suamico, WI) completing a brilliant comeback, lifting the host Capitols to a 3-2 edge againt the defending Clark Cup champs 79 seconds into overtime at Bob Suter Capitol Ice.
The Caps trailed 2-0 early in the final period before goals by Reid Pabich (’01/Verona) and then Tyler Haskins (’03/Rochester, MN — Michigan), the second with 1:54 to go, pulled them even.
Jayden Perron (’01/Winnipeg, MB) scored both Steel goals.
Simon Latkoczy (’02/Trencin, Slovakia) stopped 28 shots to grab the win in goal and Gibson Homer (’03/Grand Rapids, MI) kicked out 38 in goal for the Steel.
Youngstown Phantoms 7 @ Team USA 4
The Phantoms made the trip to USA Hockey Arena in Ann Arbor and broke into the win column.
The Phantoms carried a 3-2 lead out of the opening period and snapped a 4-4 deadlock with two goals in just over a minute in the second period and one more in the third.
Adam Ingram (’03/West St. Paul, MB) and Jaden Grant (’02/White Lake, MI — Bowling Green) scored two each for the Phantoms with others added by Carter Rose (’02/Brasher Falls, NY — Clarkson); Kyle Bettens (’01/Winnipeg, MB) and Kenta Isogai (”04/Nagano, Japan).
Gabriel Perreault (’05/Hinsdale, IL) scored twice for the National Development Team with others added by Carter Slaggert (’05/South Bend, IN) and Oliver Moore (’05/Mounds View, MN).
Cedar Rapids RoughRiders 0 @ Waterloo Black Hawks 3
Jack Williams (’01/St. Louis, MO) picked up a 21-save shutout and led the Hawks to its second win of the season.
A goal by Mason Reiners (’01/Edina, MN) 28 seconds from the end of the first period was all the Hawks needed, but insurance came with third period goals from Garrett Schifsky (’03/Andover, MN) and then Tyler Kostelecky (’01/Maple Grove, MN) into an empty net.
Connor Hasley (’01/North Tonawanda, NY — Bentley) took the loss despite a solid 34-save effort in goal for the RoughRiders.
Tri-City Storm 4 @ Lincoln Stars 1
Even at 1-1 after a period, the Storm took over with the lone second period goal and two more in the third period.
Mitchell Miller (’01/Sylvania, OH — North Dakota); Graham Gamache (’02/Edmonton, AB); Gavin Brindley (’04/Estero, FL) and Jeremy Wilmer (’03/Rockville Center, NY — Boston U) had the Storm goals and Arsenii Sergeev (’02/Yaroslavl, Russia) picked up the win in goal, beaten just once on 27 shots.
That goal came from Jack Silich (’03/Long Grove, IL — Quinnipiac).
