Roadrunners face Wildcats in home opener

The North American Hockey League (NAHL) will ease into its regular season on the weekend with six teams in action. ‘Of the half dozen starters, only one — the Topeka Roadrunners are based in the Midwest.

The Roadrunners are also the lone Midwest team the plays out of the competitive South Division which is now down to six teams as the Wenatchee Wild have moved into the BCHL in Canada while the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees have moved to the east coast for this season.

The Roadrunners will host the Wichita Falls Wildcats, always a tough opponent out of the gate with a game Friday night with a 7:05 p.m. (CST) start time. The only other game on the night will see two Alaska based squads meeting up at Kenai River with a 7:30 p.m. faceoff (Alaska time).

Wildcats and Thunder will wrap up a two-game weekend set with another 7:05 p.m. faceoff on Saturday as well. Several other Midwest-based teams will head into action the following weekend and all will take part in the annual Schwan Super Rinks (Blaine, MN) Showcase event which will run Sept. 23-26,
