Raver’s ot tally carries Wings past Wilderness

Forbes Ploszaj handled all of the 46 shots he faced and Colin Raver finally found a way past Trevor Micucci after 75:05 to bring a sudden finish to a long and exciting night.

The goal lifted the Aberdeen Wings to a thrilling 1-0 North American Hockey League Midwest Division final series clinching overtime victory at the Northwood Credit Union Arena in Cloquet, MN on Monday (May 8, 2017) night against the host Minnesota Wilderness

This back and forth series saw both teams winning once on home ice and once in enemy territory, setting up Monday’s winner-take-all battle in Cloquet. For the Wilderness, the game was its 10th of the post season as it also went the five-game distance in the opening round against the Brookings Blizzard.

The Wings meanwhile have knocked off the top two seeds in the Central Division after finishing the regular as the fourth seed and then taking out top seeded Minot Minotauros in four games in the opening round.

The Wings will advance to the Robertson Cup Championship tournament beginning on Thursday (May 11) at Duluth, MN along with the Midwest Division champion Janesville Jets, South Division champion Lone Star Brahmas and the Aston Rebels from the East Division.

Based on points, the Jets will play the Brahmas in a Championship semi-final series while the Wings will take on the Rebels. Both will be Best of Three Series with the two winners facing off in the Robertson Cup Championship on Sunday.
