Pair of former Storm players on Clark Cup champion Steel
Kearney, Neb. (Courtesy Tri-City Storm) – The South Carolina Stingrays advanced to the ECHL’s Kelly Cup Finals Wednesday with a Game 7 victory over the Manchester Monarchs. Though there are no former Storm players on the Stingrays, broadcaster Colo served as the Voice of the Storm from 2012-15.
The Stingrays are in the Finals for the second time in three seasons and face the Colorado Eagles in Game 1 this Friday.
In the USHL, former Storm players Austen Long and Dayton Rasmussen won the Clark Cup with the Chicago Steel on Tuesday against Sioux City. The goaltender Rasmussen is a back-to-back champion, winning the 2016 Clark Cup with Tri-City. Long was on the ice for the Clark-Cup-winning, overtime goal against Sioux City. The forward played for the Storm two seasons ago and was traded in February 2016 to Chicago in exchange for forward Brandon Duhaime.
In the AHL and NHL, all Storm alumni have been eliminated. AHL players Pheonix Copley (Hershey) and Trevor Moore (Toronto) were knocked out last week in the Calder Cup Playoffs’ second round.
