Nosek goal lifts Wings Prospects to win

Tomas Nosek‘s goal stood up as the game winner as the Detroit Red Wings Prospects opened up the Traverse City NHL Prospects Tournament with a 1-0 win against the Carolina Hurricanes Prospects.

That was one of two Gordie Howe Division matches on Sept. 11. The other saw the Chicago Blackhawks Prospects doubled up by the Dallas Stars Prospects 4-2

Red Wings 1 Hurricanes 0

Nosek, a 23-year-old forward from Czechoslovakia signed as a free agent last summer scored his goal in the opening minute of the second period and Jake Paterson, a 21-year-old goaltender selected by the Wings in the Third Round (80th Overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft stopped all of the 22 shots he faced in the game to earn the shutout.

Stars 4 Blackhawks 2

After a scoreless first period the Hawks grabbed a 2-1 lead in the second but the Stars triggered an amazing three goals in the final minute, the final one into an empty Chicago goal with two ticks remaining on the clock.

Ryan Hagerty, a 22-year-old forward from CT who last season played for the Hartford Wolfpack in the AHL and Hayden McCool, an 18-year-old forward from Ontario who last season played for Windsor in the OHL, had the Hawks goals while Brandon Hope, a 21-year-old goaltender from Michigan who split time between Owen Sound and Niagara in the OHL last season handled 29 of 32 shots he faced in goal for the Hawks.

The Hawks and Red Wings will face each other in the next round of play Saturday (Sept. 12) while the Hurricanes will look to knock off the 1-0 Stars in the other Gordie Howe Division match.
