Nagel’s pair leads Steel past North Stars 5-3

A pair of first period goals by Alex Nagel, 19, from Antigo, WI helped the New Ulm Steel open a 3-0 first period lead on its way to a 5-2 NA3HL West Division win against the host North Stars at Breezy Point Hockey Center on Thursday (Oct. 12, 2017).

North Stars scored both of its goals in the second period sandwiching one more by the Steel who wrapped up the scoring with the lone third period marker 2:17 from the final buzzer.

Along with the goals, Nagle added an assist. Luc Kreuser, 20, from Wisconsin Rapids, WI added a goal and assist for the winners and other goals came from Jimmy Miller, 19, from Mankato, MN and Kirk Coppock, 19, from Ontario.

Danny Wieber, 19, from St. Joseph, MN and Austin Langworthy, 20, from Mankato, MN scored the Breezy Point goals.

Ryan Beilenberg, 19, from Northfield, MN stopped 24 shots to pick up the win in goal for the Steel while Bronson Moore, 19, from Washington turned aside 27 shots in goal for the North Stars.

The Steel boosted its regular season record to 2-0-2-1 with the win and the North Stars fell to 2-5-0-0. Both will move on to play Alexandria Blizzard to wrap up their respective weekends. The Blizzard will be at Breezy Point Hockey Center on Friday night and then plays host to the Steel on Saturday at the Runestone Community Center.
