Murray picks up shutout for Force

A quick look at the scoreboard shows a 2-0 win for the Fargo Force against the host Sioux City Musketeeers at the Tyson Events Center, Thursday (Oct. 20) night, but the score sheet shows a wacky game.

Matthew Murray, 18, from Alberta and Matiss Kivlenieks, 20, from Latvia both stopped all they saw in the opening period with a relatively close margin on the shot board, 7-6 in favor of the Musketeers.

In the middle period, Fargo buried Kivlenieks in shots with an 18-1 margin, finally getting one by him as Grant Meyer, 20, from Curtice, OH notched his fourth of the season at the 11:46 mark.

The final frame saw a total reversal as the Musketeers threw all it had at Murray, but could not find a way past him despite a 14-4 edge in shots.

Meyer added his fifth 5:56 into the contest for a little insurance and Murray’s work between the pipes made the margin stand up. Blake Lizotte, 19, from Lindstrom, MN assisted on both of the Meyer goals, his ninth and 10th helpers of the young campaign.

The same two teams were scheduled to square off again Friday (Oct 21) at the same arena.
