McManus pair helps Steel grab Clark Cup evening win

Two goals from Brannon McManus helped pace the Chicago Steel to a 5-1 win at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City as they evened the Best of Five United States Hockey League Clark Cup Championship series at a game apiece on Saturday (May 13, 2017).

Steel grabbed control of this one with three unanswered first period goals – the first by Reggie Lutz and the other two from McManus.

Following a scoreless second period, Jake Jaremko gave the visitors a 4-0 cushion 7:47 into the third and Eduards Tralmaks added another with 6:47 to play.

Aapeli Rasanen helped the Musketeers garner some consolation, shattering the shutout bid of Steel goaltender, Ales Stezka just 4:16 from the final horn. Stezka picked up the win in goal with 38 saves.

Matiss Kivlenieks was relieved after the fourth Chicago goal, having stopped 18 shots and Todd Scott finished it off, stopping four of five Steel shots through the final 12:12.

This game wraps up the opening weekend of the series. Teams will move on to Chicago’s Fox Valley Ice Arena for games three and four next weekend (May 19-20).
