McGrew OT heroics keep USA U-17 team perfect.

After surrendering the tying goal with just over three minutes to go, the USA U-17 Selects won with an overtime tally from Jacob McGrew to stay perfect at the U-17 Five Nations Cup at Arosa, Switzerland with a 4-3 win against Slovakia.
Once again, the Americans charged back from an early deficit in this one. Down 2-0 after a goal early in the second period, Madison, WI native Mick Messner got his side on the board 29 seconds later.

Brannon McManus took over from there, scoring the equalizer 7:01  into the third and giving Team USA its first lead with 5:10 to go in the contest.

Fehervary Martin evened it at 3-3 with just 3:03 team to go and teams finished regulation time even at 3-3, setting the stage for McGrew’s overtime dramatics.

Tommy Miller (West Bloomfield, MI) and Ivan Lodnia (Novi, MI) both picked up an assist in the game.

With the win, the Americans improved to 2-0 at the tournament, having opened with another single-goal edge 5-4 against Czech Republic on the first day of the tourney. Slovakia meanhwile fell to 0-1-1 with the overtime loss.

Switzerland (0-2) will play Team USA tomorrow with the 1-0 Germans as the final opposition. Germany is scheduled to play Czech Republic (1-1) later on today.
