Lambacher lifts Magicians to win against Wings

Alex Lambacher, 19, from Italy sank the lone goal of the third period just shy of the halfway mark and Andrew Lindgren, 19, from Minneapolis, MN turned aside 15 of 16 helping the host Minnesota Magicians to a 2-1 win against the Aberdeen Wings in North American Hockey League play at the Richfield Arena Saturday (Oct. 3).

In other NAHL league play involving Midwest based teams on the same day: The Janesville Jets completed a weekend sweep of the Fairbanks Ice Dogs 3-1; Austin Bruins doubled the visiting Brookings Blizzard 6-3; Springfield Blues held off the Coulee Region Chill on home ice 3-2; Topeka Roadrunners went to a shootout to get by the visiting Lone Star Brahmas 3-2; Minot Minotauros picked up a 4-2 road win at Bismarck against the Bobcats and the Minnesota Wilderness crushed the visiting Kenai River Brown Bears 9-1.

Wings 1 at Magicians 2

This one was scoreless through the first period, both teams notching on in the middle frame to set the stage for Lambacher.

Travis Brown, 19, from Otsego, MN opened the scoring for the Magicians and Colin Raver, 19, from Bartlett, IL scored the lone Aberdeen goal while Peter Thome, 18, from Minneapolis turned aside 20 shots for the Wings.

Ice Dogs 1 at Jets 3

Kip Hoffman, 18, from Huntley, IL and Nils Rygaard, 20, from Sweden scored 41 seconds apart to give the host Janesville Jets a 2-0 cushion before the game was six minutes old, but Ryner Gorowski, 19, from Lino Lakes fired one to get the Fairbanks IceDogs on the board later in the opening stanza.

The only other goal in this one came from Vaclav Krudenc, 20, from Czech Republic, widening the gap a little in the second period for the Jets. Blake Weyrick, 19, from California stopped 27 shots to pick up the win in goal for the Jets and CJ Boothe, 17, from Florida handled 24 shots in goal for the IceDogs.

Blizzard 3 at Bruins 6

The Austin Bruins grabbed control of this one with four unanswered first period goals while goaltender Kristofer Carlson, 18 from Virginia, stopped a Brookings Blizzard penalty shot in the frame on his way to a 27-save win between the pipes.

Both teams scored once in the middle frame and the Bruins added one more in the third before the Blizzard scored the final pair.

Justin Misiak, 19, from St. Clair Shores, MI; Gilbert Gabor, 20, from Sweden and Dalton Gally, 17, from Texas each collected a goal and assist for the Bruins and William Riedell, 19, from North Carolina set up two with other goals coming from: Logan Haskins, 18, from Rochester, MN; Dawson DiPietro, 20, from Medina, OH and AJ Drobot, 17, from Pennsylvania.

Mikael Hakkarainen, 17, from Finland; Martan Yelle, 17, from Geneva, IL and Kane Durment, 20, from Kildeer, IL scored the Blizzard goals and Josh Keuhmichel, 19, from Hopkins, MN turned aside 26 shots in goal for the Blizzard.

Chill 2 at Blues 3

Kyle Meeh, 20, from St. Louis, MO scored twice in 31 seconds to put the host Springfield Blues in front 2-0 early at the Nelson Center and Coulee Region Chill goaltender Hunter Vorva, 20, from Kalamazoo, turned aside a penalty shot for one of his 40 stops in goal for the Chill, denying the Blues an even wider opening period margin.

Michael Wilson, 20, from Fond du Lac, finally got the Chill on the board in the final minute of the second period and Davis Zembergs, 19, from Latvia pulled the Chill even 8:41 into the third setting the stage for Trevor Stone, 19, from Pleasant Plains, IL who buried the game winner for the Blues 73 seconds from the third period buzzer.

Tommy Nappier, 17, from St. Louis, MO turned aside 23 shots to collect the win in goal for the Blues.

Brahmas 2 at Roadrunners 3 (so)

The Lone Star Brahmas built a 2-0 first period lead with goals from Peter Kessel, 19, from Detroit, MI and Joseph Fallon, 20, from New York, but the Topeka Roadrunners struck back with second period goals from Dominic Lutz, 19, from Livonia, MI and Tyler Hayes, 19, from Brighton, MI at the Kansas ExpoCentre.

Teams played through a scoreless third period and overtime segment before Cam Strong, 20, from Montana settled it with the lone goal in the shootout, ending it immediately with the second shot of the third round.

Tyler Johnson, 17, from New York stopped 16 of 18 to grab the win in goal for the Roadrunners and Corbin Kaczperski, 19, from Detroit, MI made 22 saves in goal for the Brahmas.

Minotauros 4 at Bobcats 2

This one was even through 40 minutes, both the Minotauros and host Bismarck Bobcats scoring once in both the first and second period at the VFW Sports Center

Jared Brandt, 19, from St. Peters, MO sank the game winner 9:50 into the third period for the Minot squad and Christian Mohs, 20, from Andover, MN made it official with an empty netter with 56 seconds to play. Other Minot goals came from Tyler Jeanson, 18, from Manitoba and Sam Fuss, 18, from Edina. Lucas Murray, 19, from Virginia, MN turned aside 25 shots in goal for the Minotauros.

Jared Pike, 20, from Utah and Alex Strand, 20, from Roseau, MN contributed goals for the Bobcats while goaltender Hunter Shepard, 20, from Cohasset, MN turned aside 18 shots.

Brown Bears 1 at Wilderness 9

Michael Mahan, 18, from Arizona and Koby Bender, 18, from Cloquet, MN both scored twice and added an assist to lead a potent Minnesota Wilderness to a 9-1 win and a weekend sweep against the visiting Kenai River Brown Bears.

The Wilderness carried a 3-0 lead out of the first period and teams traded goals early in the second, but it was the Wilderness in total control up 7-1 by the end of 40 minutes.

Ryan Bloom, 20, from Novi, MI also scored twice for the Wilderness and Nick Altmann, 18, from Duluth, MN collected a couple of assists. Tyler Cline, 20, from Blaine, MN picked up a goal and two helpers with other goals scored by Casey Gilling, 17, from Gaylord, MI and Tony DeVito, 20, from Bloomingdale, IL.

Mathias Tellstrom, 19, from Sweden scored the lone Kenai River goal.

The Wilderness got a combined effort in goal, Chase Munroe, 20, from Naperville, IL stopping 20 of 21 through the first two periods and Dyllan Lubbesmeyer, 19, from Burnsville handling all eight Brown Bear shots down the stretch. Nicholas Nast, 18, from California made 31 saves in goal for the Brown Bears.
