Force defender, Meier commits to St. Cloud State

FARGO, ND (Courtesy Fargo Force) – Fargo Force defenseman Spencer Meier has committed to play college hockey for St. Cloud State University following his junior hockey eligibility.

Meier, a Sartell, MN native, is entering his first season with the Force after being selected in the ninth round of the USHL Phase II Draft in May.

The 18-year-old played four years of varsity hockey at Sartell-St. Stephen High School, totaling 150 points (38-115-153) in 149 games for the Sabres. In his senior season, Meier finished with 42 points (15-27-42) — the most of any defenseman on the team. Meier played in one game for the Minot Minotauros of the NAHL after his high school season ended, but did not register a point.

Meier grew up 15 minutes from St. Cloud State’s campus, and he cited the proximity to family and friends as a major factor in his commitment.

“I grew up watching [SCSU] since I was six, it was a dream come true to be able to commit to play for them,” said Meier. “The coaching staff is known to be great there and I’ll be close to family.”

St. Cloud State currently has two former Force players on the roster: Blake Lizotte and Mikey Eyssimont.

The Force open the 2017-18 season at home on Friday, October 6th against the Sioux Falls Stampede at Scheels Arena. Puck drop for all Force home games is 7:05pm. Tickets are available at the Scheels Arena box office Monday through Friday from 10am-5pm or online 24/7 at ticketmaster.com or by calling 1-800-745-3000.
