Firebirds post a perfect OHL debut

The Flint Firebirds didn’t waste any time recording its first Ontario Hockey League victory Thursday (Sept. 24)

Goaltender Zack Bowman, 18, from Ontario turned aside every one of the 24 shots he faced as the Firebirds made its league debut with a 3-0 win at Saginaw’s Dow Event Center against the host Spirit.

While Bowman kept his crease clear, Ryan Moore, 18, from Troy, MI and Nicholas Casmano, 17, from Ontario  scored late first period goals — Casmano a shorthanded tally — to provide the team will all of the offense it would need.

Just to make sure though, Will Bitten, 17, from Ontario added one more for the Firebirds, on a powerplay late in the second period to finish off the scoring.

Evan Cormier started in goal for the Spirit, 17, from Ontario turned aside 27 of 30 shots in the game.

The same two teams will square off again on Saturday (Sept. 26), this time at the Dort Federal Event Center in Flint.
