Firebirds and Spirit set for OHL preseason

The Ontario Hockey League kicks off this weekend for both American Midwest based teams.

The Flint Firebirds will be looking to build off its first playoff appearance last season when it begins a preview of its third OHL season when it takes on the defending Memorial Cup champion Windsor Spitfires tonight (Sept. 1, 2017) in at the Harbor Center in Buffalo as part of the league’s Showcase Pre-Season event.

The Firebirds will be the home team at the Harbor Center on Saturday night against Erie Otters, the other OHL team that played in last season’s Memorial Cup tournament. On Sunday afternoon, the Firebirds will wrap up the busy pre-season weekend as the visiting team against the North Bay Battalion at the Harbor Center.

The Saginaw Spirit will not be among the teams taking part in the Buffalo event, but will be equally as busy playing a home-and-home set with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. Teams will play an exhibition match at the Dow Event Center in Saginaw Saturday night and then both travel back to the Soo for a Sunday afternoon meeting at the Essar Center.
