Fighting Saints acquire Primeau in trade with Stars

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Courtesy Dubuque Fighting Saints) — The Dubuque Fighting Saints have acquired forward Chayse Primeau (Voorhees, N.J./Canisius College) from the Lincoln Stars, in exchange for a 2018 Phase I 6^th round draft pick. Primeau, the son of NHL alum Keith, and brother of Montreal Canadiens draft pick Cayden, played his first full season with the Stars to the tune of 12 points in 48 games last year.

“As the preseason has developed, we have recognized some areas in our lineup that needed improvement,” said Saints general manager, Kalle Larsson. “Consequently, Chayse was identified by our staff as a player who fills some of those same needs, and will make our team better overall.”

Primeau’s hockey journey saw him excel in the Philadelphia area, and then onto successful stints with Bishop Eustace Prep School, and the Philadelphia Revolution program before heading off to Lincoln to join the Stars.

“Chayse is a high character player and person, which is always a key factor when we look at adding players to our squad,” Larsson added. “We expect him to be an important piece in our group.”

Primeau brings size and tenacity, much like his father before him. He stands at 6-foot-3, and plays a disciplined role, as he racked up only 21 penalty minutes in 48 games last season, and finished the year with a +8 rating. He also brings experience, Larsson said, which was attractive to the entire hockey staff in the decision to acquire him.

Primeau will join the Fighting Saints immediately, and will be part of the roster on the trip to Pittsburgh for the USHL’s Fall Classic. His first opponent will be his former team, the Lincoln Stars, on Thursday, September 28 at 7:00 p.m. CDT.
