Familiar names carry Hawks past Blues

There are plenty of new faces in the Chicago Blackhawks, but the old standbys were the ones piloting the ship in the Hawks most recent pre-season test — a 3-1 win at the United Center Saturday (Sept. 26) against the St. Louis Blues.

It was the Blues on the board first, prospect Joel Edmundson, a 22-year-old defenseman from Brandon, MB firing the only shot of 20 that would beat Corey Crawford late in the first period from Ty Rattie and David Backes.

Marian Hossa pulled the Hawks even 7:06 into the middle period from captain Jonathan Toews and Duncan Keith and teams were all even heading to the third period.

Patrick Kane‘s goal with 4:18 to play, from Niklas Hjalmarsson stood up as the game winner and Keith added some insurance with a powerplay tally with 2:02 to go from Brent Seabrook and Hossa.

Jake Allen made 31 saves in goal for the Blues.

Next action for the Blues will be Tuesday (Sept. 28) when the team travels to Dallas to play the Stars and the Hawks will not play again until Oct. 1 when it travels to the Scottrade Center in St. Louis for a rematch with the Blues.
