Driscoll records shutout win for Lancers in USHL pre-season opener

The United States Hockey League opened its pre-season on Thursday (Sept. 14, 2017) with a single contest, the host Omaha Lancers collecting a 3-0 shutout win against the visiting Sioux City Musketeers at the Ralston Arena.

Teams played through a scoreless first period, due in part to some stellar play from Matt Jurusik in goal as the Lancers held an 18-8 edge on the shot clock. Jurusik, 20, from La Grange, IL joined the Musketeers over the summer after playing a couple of seasons at the University of Wisconsin.

Connor Marshall, 19, from Florida scored the goal that would stand up as the game winner 8:13 into the middle period and Brendan Furry, 19, from Toledo, OH added another about three minutes later.

The Lancers carried the 2-0 cushion into the final 20 minutes. Joseph Abate, 19, from Bloomington, IL adding the final goal.

Zach Driscoll, 20, from Apple Valley, MN picked up the goose egg win, stopping all the 20 shots he faced while Jurusik handled 34 of 37 in goal for the Musketeers.

The Lancers will be back in action on Saturday staying on home ice to play host to the Lincoln Stars while the Musketeers will be back in action on Tuesday, hosting the Sioux Falls Stampede at the Tyson Events Center.
