Dashers hold off Wolves attack

The Federal Hockey League opened its 2016-17 season on two fronts Friday (Oct. 28)  and one of them saw Midwest based Danville Dashers holding on for a 3-2 win at Watertown Municipal Arena against the host Watertown Wolves.

Dashers dominated play early in this one outshooting its host 19-11 in the opening 20 minutes and jumping into a 3-0 lead with goals from Michael Harris, Easton Oliver and Justin Brausen, the latter from Little Canada, MN.

After an even second period , the home team threw all it had at the Dashers down the stretch, outshooting its guest 21-9 in the third period.

The pressure finally paid off as Jeremy Akeson found a way past Dashers goaltender Troy Passingham, 11:41 into the period and John Schiavo pulled his team within a goal with 90 seconds to play.

Passingham stopped the remaining chances for a 40-save victory while Ed Zdolshek, 25, from Parma, OH made 35 saves in goal for the Wolves.
