Blue Jackets get quick look at 3-on-3

The Columbus Blue Jackets opened its 2015-16 pre-season on Monday (Sept. 21) night and clearly, the goaltenders were ready to go.

The Blue Jackets and Penguins opened in Columbus and played through 60 scoreless minutes before getting their first sample of 3-on-3 overtime and finally an eight-player shootout.

Penguins 1 Blue Jackets 0

Joonas Korpisalo backstopped the Blue Jackets Prospects to the Championship at the Traverse City NHL Prospects Tournament earlier in the week and turned in a dazzling performance in his first test with the parent club, stopping every one of the 39 shots he faced in goal for the Blue Jackets in this one while Jeff Zatkoff earned a shutout in the Penguins’ goal as well, stopping all of the 23 shots against him.

Teams went to shootout and finally as the final shooter in the third round, Beau Bennett of the Penguins found the mesh to give his team a pre-season opening 1-0 win.

Oliver Bjorkstrand, Alexander Wennberg and Ryan Murray all missed on their attempts for the Blue Jackets.

The Blue Jackets are scheduled to head right into action with a pair of split-squad games against the St. Louis Blues — one in Columbus and one in St. Louis, on Tuesday (Sept. 22).
