Blizzard opens season at Breezy Point

Several teams have already opened their respective NA3HL seasons as the league heads into its third weekend of the season. The Alexandria Blizzard though are facing its first test with an early start to the weekend, Thursday night (Sept. 17) at Breezy Point against the North Stars.

The Breezy Point Ice Arena will host the only game of the night as the 0-1 North Stars host the Blizzard.

Friday, Sept. 18

The North Iowa Bulls, defending national champs and Silver Cup Finalists will open a new campaign in Wisconsin against the host Whalers who have moved out of Madison and into nearby Oregon for the new season. The Bulls and Whalers will play two at the Oregon Ice Center, Friday and Saturday.

Also starting out will be the Rochester Ice Hawks in its first NA3HL game Friday, making a familiar trek into the state capital to play the Twin City Steel at White Bear Sports Center in the season opener for both teams. The same two teams will play again back at the Rochester Graham Arenas the following night.

A pair of 2-0 teams will go head-to-head Friday as the Toledo Cherokee hosts the Metro Jets at the Toledo Ice House Friday. Other Midwest based games will see the Wooster Oilers hosting the Southern Tier Express at Alice Noble Ice Center and the Breezy Point North Stars will be at Sports Arena East in Sauk Rapids to play the defending league champion Granite City Lumberjacks.

Saturday, Sept. 19

After opening the weekend at home against the Jets, the Toledo Cherokee will wrap up a busy weekend with Saturday/Sunday games at the Cincinnati Gardens against the 0-2 Cincinnati Thunder. The Metro Jets meanwhile will return home for a Saturday night match at Fraser Hockeyland against the 1-1 West Michigan Wolves.

In another battle of 2-0 teams, the St. Louis Junior Blues will be at Owens Arena for a Saturday/Sunday twinbill against the host Peoria Mustangs.

The La Crosse Freeze will become the final team to open its regular season when it plays host to the Chicago Bulldogs in games Saturday and Sunday at the Green Island Ice Arena. The Bulldogs come into the weekend 0-2 following a rough weekend in Peoria.

Also on Saturday, the Breezy Point North Stars will entertain the Minnesota Flying Aces in a match at the Breezy Point Ice Arena.
